EXPO 2022/23 in Argentina has been canceled.
EXPO 2025 Osaka, Japan
In 2025, the journey of the World Exhibitions will go to Osaka.
This marks the second time since 1970 that EXPO has returned to the Japanese metropolis.
From 1970 to 2010 at the Shanghai EXPO, the Osaka World Expo held a record attendance of approximately 64 million visitors.
EXPO 2027 possibly in Minnesota (USA), Phuket (Thailand), San Carlos de Bariloche (Argentina), Belgrade (Serbia) or Malaga (Spain)
The U.S. has so far been the first of five countries to apply to host the next Specialized EXPO in 2027/28.
Thailand became the second country to submit a candidacy in January 2022.
Other interested parties and candidates followed in the same month. They had to submit their candidacy by January 28, 2022.
Malaga (Spain), San Carlos de Bariloche (Argentina) and Belgrade (Serbia) are among the official candidates.
5 Candidates and applications for the World Expo 2030
There are five candidates for hosting EXPO 2030 after the list closes on Oct. 29, 2021:
Motto: "Human Progress: A Shared Vision for a World of Harmony".
South Korea, Busan
Motto: "Transforming Our World, Navigating Toward a Better Future".
Motto: "The Horizontal City: Urban Regeneration and Civil Society".
Motto: "Renaissance. Technology. Future."
Saudi Arabia, Riyadh
Motto: "The Era of Change: Leading the Planet to a Foresighted Tomorrow".
A six-month bidding period for the EXPO 2030 World Exposition was launched on April 29, 2021 after the Russian Federation submitted its bid for Moscow to the B.I.E..
Other candidacies followed from South Korea for Busan, which will be held on June 23, 2021, at the BIE was submitted.
Italy's candidacy for Rome was announced on October 7, 2021 at the BIE submitted.
The penultimate was Ukraine's candidacy for the city of Odesa on October 15, 2021.
And on the last day of the application period, Saudi Arabia submitted its application to host EXPO 2030 for the capital city of Riyadh on Oct. 29, 2021.
The BIE closed the list of candidates at 5 p.m. CET on October 29, 2021. This means that the number of candidates will remain at five.
Basic process of the application phase:
Once the list is closed, the project review phase of the application process begins, during which each candidate submits a detailed application dossier.
The BIE will then organize "fact-finding missions" and evaluate the feasibility and viability of each application project.
The host country of the 2030 World Expo will later be chosen by the General Assembly gathered in a BIE-Member States elected on the principle of "one country, one vote".

It is not yet clear exactly whether the next Specialised EXPO will be in 2027 or 2028, as Thailand's bid is to host it in 2028.
All other four applicants from the USA, Serbia, Spain and Argentina would host EXPO 2027.
